Orthodontics

(braces)

Benefits of Braces

Through orthodontics we can change the position of your teeth in order to improve their alignment. This can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile and often improves self-esteem levels as a result. As well as giving you a more aesthetic smile, straightening your teeth can make it easier for you to maintain good oral hygiene. Aligning your teeth can also improve your ability to chew and will help to prevent your teeth from wearing unevenly. Although braces are commonly associated with teenagers, adults can also improve their smile with orthodontics. Straightening your teeth will have lifelong benefits for you smile, health and confidence.

Orthodontic treatment can assist with the following problems:

  • Spacing between teeth

  • Crowding of teeth

  • Rotated teeth

  • Alignment between top and bottom jaws

  • Protrusive or proclined teeth

  • Retruded or retroclined teeth

  • Management of extraction spaces

At Alfredton Dental we can help decide the best course of orthodontic

treatment for you and advise when the treatment should be started.

       Options can include:

  • Removable appliances or “plates” – these can correct minor alignment problems and cross-bites

  • Sequential aligners – we support an Australian company called Tru-Line™ – minor crowding or spacing can be resolved with a series of practically invisible aligners
Braces – brackets are attached to the teeth and wires are used to move teeth into the desired position – can resolve most orthodontic problems

CEREC

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Aesthetic Ceramics) is a computer-aided system that combines 3D imaging, CAD/CAM programmes and a milling machine to create lifelike dental restorations with incredible speed and precision.

We are proud to bring you this state-of-the-art dental technology that

has revolutionised the way a dental crown is prepared and fabricated

– right in the dental office. With CEREC, we are able to mill a new crown

within our own premises while the patient is still in the dental chair!

A dental crown is a cap that fits over an existing tooth to restore its

function and aesthetic appearance. It is usually recommended for a

decayed or damaged tooth that has lost too much structure, such

that a regular filling fails to offer sufficient structural integrity or

tooth stability.

Although the CEREC is most celebrated for its crown restorations,

it can also be used to fabricate an inlay to replace larger fillings.

Due to the stronger composite material that it uses, CEREC

restorations are generally more durable and stable compared

to traditional ones. The quality of the material also means that

the dentist does not need to reduce as much tooth structure,

hence making the tooth preparation stage less invasive for the patient.
